Dublin was incredible! Katie, Bronwyn, Tori, and I just roamed around the town. We had some coffee at a little cafe, went shopping, walked around a park for a spell. During the evening, we hung out with the locals coming from the Gaelic football semifinals in The Temple Bar district! The actual Temple Bar was cool; we heard live music and met some people from right around Dublin. We also helped a group of American guys form a pyramid so that they could check it off of their scavenger hunt list. Let's just say that those pictures are priceless. After dinner, we befriended a huge group of Irish guys and proceeded to hangout with them for the night and see some of the locals' hangout spots!
The second day in Dublin I had a field lab for my sociology class in which we're studying Race, Class, and Gender. We did a long walking tour around Dublin lead by the Sinn Fein Bookstore, which was fascinating. I never knew how much thought and fighting and gumption went into the Irish revolution! All of the secret underground tunnels, the guerrilla warfare, and even the hiding of information from one another so that it couldn't be revealed if you were to be captured. Just incredible. My class also went to the Glasnevin cemetery, which is know for being the first cemetery to allow people of all lifestyles and religions. The guy who bought the land and started it, Daniel O'Connell, is know as the Liberator for all of his work and influence in toleration. Many other famous people are buried there, including numerous men famous for their work in raising tolerance throughout Ireland and the world. Definitely fit in with the idea of oppression that we're studying in class! I would recommend that everyone go and google it right now.
All in all, I LOVE Ireland! I'm in London as I right this. More on that later. :)
